Astrometric detection of a low-mass companion orbiting the star AB Doradus

International audience; We report submilliarcsecond-precise astrometric measurements for the late-type star AB Doradus via a combination of VLBI (very long baseline interferometry) and HIPPARCOS data. Our astrometric analysis results in the precise determination of the kinematics of this star, which reveals an orbital motion readily explained as caused by gravitational interaction with a low-mass companion. En este artículo se analiza un hecho insólito en la historia del arte español: productos creados en el siglo XV en Manises y Paterna, poblaciones cercanas a la ciudad de Valencia, sirven de modelo a otros italianos coetáneos y no a la inversa. Se trata de cerámica arquitectónica, "azulejos" (tiles), así como de piezas de vajilla. Y ello tanto en lo referente a las formas como al repertorio ornamental. (A)

La loza decorada apareció en la península ibérica bajo la dominación musulmana durante el califato de Córdoba. La técnica oriental de las cubiertas de plomo decoradas con óxidos metálicos, incluso opacificadas con estaño, se produjeron en los talleres de la corte y de ahí se difundieron hacia los mercados urbanos. En los reinos cristianos peninsulares, la transferencia técnica e incluso su uso en la mesa, no se hizo hasta la segunda mitad del siglo XIII. Precise determination of stellar masses is necessary to test the validity of pre-main-sequence (PMS) stellar evolutionary models, whose predictions are in disagreement with measurements for masses below 1.2 M. To improve such a test, and based on our previous studies, we selected the AB Doradus moving group (AB Dor-MG) as the best-suited association on which to apply radio-based high-precision astrometric techniques to study binary systems. Precise determination of dynamical masses of pre-main-sequence (PMS) stars is essential to calibrate stellar evolution models that are widely used to derive theoretical masses of young low-mass objects. Binary stars in young, nearby loose associations are particularly good candidates for this calibration since all members share a common age. AbstractPrecise determination of dynamical masses of pre-main-sequence stars is essential for calibrating stellar evolution models, that are widely used to derive theoretical masses of young low-mass objects. We have determined the individual masses of the pair AB Dor Ba/Bb using Australian Long Baseline Array observations and archive infrared data, as part of a larger program directed to monitor binary systems in the AB Doradus moving group. Two new apricot varieties

Nella and Dora are apricot seedlings recently selected by R. Chiappetta in Sicily. Their vegetative, floreal, agronomic and fruit-quality characteristics were checked for three years (2003 - 2005) in Partinico (Palermo coast area), under mild winter and spring temperatures, in comparison with Tyrinthos variety. Nella and Dora have an upright tree habit and are self-compatible. Blooming started a week earlier in Nella and Tyrinthos (end of February) and concluded in the second part of March in all varieties. Fruit set was satisfactory in all cultivars. Crop was harvested from May 25th to 30th in Dora, May 24th to 30th in Nella and May 24th to 28th in Tyrinthos. Fruit weight, as a three years…
